Keep watch on the weather.  The next cold front swoops in this afternoon, bringing showers and thunderstorms to Middle Tennessee. A few strong storms are possible during the afternoon and early evening. The Storm Prediction Center has placed all of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky under a marginal risk

The Tennessee Department of Corrections is working to make sure kids stay safe this Halloween.  Officials with the agency are checking in with registered sex offenders ahead of trick-or-treating. The Department says individuals who have been convicted of a crime against a minor are not permitted to have porch lights on or display Halloween decorations as kids are out collecting candy.  They do note that up to 97 percent of registered sex offenders are in compliance with state orders, and that there is no evidence to suggest that children are more likely to be assaulted on Halloween.

The Boo Bash Dash 5K and one-mile Fun Run is this Saturday at the Robertson County Fairgrounds.  As one of their main fundraising events each year, the local CASA program puts on the Boo Bash Dash to highlight their work in the community and the needs of the children they care for.  With its more than 70,000 volunteers nationwide, CASA works with children who have been deemed abused or neglected and advocates for their best interests in the court system and other settings.  Check-in and registration will for this year’s race is Saturday morning  at 8 a.m., with the 5K set to start at 9 a.m., followed by the Fun Run at 9:10.

My Father’s House, a cold weather shelter in Springfield, will open its doors next month on Nov. 1 at a brand-new location on 10th Avenue East in Springfield, immediately behind Southside Drug Store.  Starting on Nov. 1, the shelter will be open for seven days a week from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. Volunteers will be needed to help guests check in each day when they arrive.  More information on My Father’s House Mission can be found on their Facebook page.
