The Tennessee National Guard is still helping in Florida after Hurricane Ian. The hurricane made landfall in Southwest Florida last week and 12-hundred troopers from Tennessee were ready to help after it passed through. Some of those sent down are still in Florida helping recovery efforts in the worst-impacted areas like Fort Myers. Specially trained dogs are being used by troopers to help find people trapped in rubble and debris.

The deadline to register to vote in Tennessee is now less than a week away. Tennesseans have until Tuesday to register to participate in the General Election on November 8th. Voters in November will have the chance to elect federal and state lawmakers as well as voice their opinion on key issues. One issue on the ballot in Tennessee is an amendment to the state Constitution which still says slavery is allowed as a form of criminal punishment. Tennesseans are paying tribute to country music legend Loretta Lynn who passed away yesterday. Lynn died at her ranch in the Humphreys County town of Hurricane Mills. Fans are paying tribute outside the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville where there is a statue of Lynn. The Coal Miner’s Daughter died at the age of 90 and tributes from the country music world have been pouring in since news broke of her passing.

A 7-year-old boy told his mother that he was approached by a couple in a white van and offered money. Clarksville Police received a 911 call from a woman who said her 7-year-old child was offered money by a man and a woman in a white van. According to the child, he was offered money if he promised to come back and “wash their vehicle.” This incident occurred around the Tiny Town Road and Needmore Road area, according to police spokesman Scott Beaubien. Police immediately canvassed the area and have provided extra patrol since the initial report was made. CPD did not have any contact with a vehicle matching that description.

According to the White House Police Department, a motor vehicle accident was reported on Tuesday. The officials stated that a vehicle traveling east on Chowning Road at a high rate of speed attempted to make a turn at Owens Chapel Road when he hit the White House Police vehicle head-on. The officials stated that the vehicle was driven by a 16-year-old. The police officer was severely injured in the crash. He was rushed to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The 16-year-old driver was not injured in the crash.
