Meteorologists are predicting fall colors to peak toward the end of this month in Middle Tennessee. Foliage changes should be at their most vibrant between October 23rd and November fifth. To have the brightest fall leaves, the region needs a wet growing season and a warm, dry fall. Middle Tennessee had close-to-average rainfall April through September, but abnormally dry conditions right now could dull this year’s autumn display.
Authorities are investigating after a body was found in a burning car Monday morning in Wilson County. Deputies responded to the area around the Tyree Access boat ramp. Once the fire was extinguished, the body was found. The investigation continues and anyone with information should call authorities.
Starting tomorrow, the City of Clarksville will begin offering Real ID services both at City Hall and at the North Clarksville Service Center. Today the only place in Clarksville to apply for Real ID is the Driver Service Center located at 220 W. Dunbar Road. The addition of two new locations will help to alleviate wait times for applicants and make it easier for residents to receive their new identification.

Bill Lee signed a proclamation dedicating September 30 to be a statewide day of “prayer, humility, and fasting.” For those atheists and agnostics who are part of the 14% of Tennesseans who declare no religious affiliation, this pious proclamation was offensive as well as concerning since it reflects a blatant disrespect for the separation of church and state, a fundamental philosophy on which this nation was founded.
A motorcyclist was killed in a collision on U.S. Highway 431 Monday afternoon in Springfield. Travis Dowlen, 38, of Springfield was operating the 2007 Suzuki GSX motorcycle when he struck a pickup truck at the intersection of W County Farm Road and U.S. 431, says Tennessee Highway Patrol. The crash was initially reported around 3 p.m. The THP collision report states Dowlen was headed southbound on U.S. 431 “at a high rate of speed.” The driver of the pickup truck was stopped on W County Farm Road and began to turn left onto U.S. 431 when the motorcycle hit the front corner of the truck on the driver’s side. No charges have been placed on the driver of the pickup truck.
Do you have large items cluttering your home or garage? The City of Springfield’s fall curbside household junk collection will take place from October 3-31, 2022. The City of Springfield provides residents living within city limits of Springfield junk collection pick up twice per year for larger items that cannot be disposed of in household trash such as mattresses, furniture, etc. This service is provided in addition to, and not in replacement of, residents’ household and brush collection. Loose and small items must be bagged for collection. Hazardous waste, construction materials, tires, and home improvement materials will not be collected. This service is not available for commercial properties, apartments, condominiums, vacant properties, and lots.
