A Cheatham County toddler has been shot in the head. The incident happened around 2 p.m. Monday, April 29 at a home on Hazel Drive. The 3-year-old boy was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center via LifeFlight and is in critical condition. One other person was at home at the time of the shooting which appears to be accidental.

Sounds of yelling and shots being fired elicited a 911 call and sent Cheatham County deputies scrambling to a rural home to sort it all out When the first deputies arrived, they met Larry Dunn on the street near the residence. The 47-year-old was frazzled and told the officers that he had just been shot at by a man at the residence where he had come from. According to the Department of Correction, Dunn is a violent sex offender convicted of Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure in August 2012. While trying to find facts, deputies put Dunn in the back of the police car while other deputies quickly moved to the house and used the car’s bullhorn to order Paul Johnson to exit the home and surrender. Ultimately, Johnson and a female surrendered without incident. The deputies handcuffed them.
