Millions of dollars are being spent to fix a backlog on rape kit testing in Tennessee.  Governor Bill Lee yesterday said the funding will be used to hire 25 new lab workers at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s forensic labs.  Current testing is taking up to 49 weeks to come back from one of the state’s three labs.  There is currently a backlog of over 900 rape kits waiting to be tested.

The Tennessee Titans are going for back-to-back wins this weekend.  Mike Vrabel’s side plays against the Colts in Indianapolis on Sunday after disappointing starts to the season for teams.  The Titans and the Colts both got their first win of the year last week and are looking to use that momentum to get another victory in the books.  The game starts at noon Central Time and the Colts are slightly favored ahead of kick-off.

A cause of death has been determined for the Tennessee kindergarten teacher whose body was found earlier this month after she was kidnapped. West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center in Memphis found that Eliza Fletcher, 34, died of a gunshot wound to the back of the head, and she also suffered jaw fractures and blunt force injuries to her right leg, according to the Associated Press. Fletcher, a mother of two, was abducted off the streets of Memphis on Friday, Sept. 2 during her morning jog.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is alerting doctors of an increase in cases of enterovirus D68 (EV-D68) that can lead to paralysis in kids. Doctors say it’s a virus that can cause an infection similar to the common cold. But, in some cases, it can cause serious breathing problems and may be linked to more cases of a rare, paralyzing condition that affects the spinal cord.
