This week Kevin Raper a Republican state representative said he plans to say no to a bill that would allow teachers to carry a concealed gun. The bill is currently being held on the desk in the House, which means it’s on hold. The bill passed through committees in the House last year, but it was put on hold after The Covenant School shooting: the sponsor, Rep. Ryan Williams. R-Cookeville would have to move to take it off before the end of the session. Raper posted a video on social media where he said “As a former educator I see no positive aspects of this bill.
Daniel Riley, the man who caused a February 2023 crash in St. Louis that cost Middle Tennessee teen Janae Edmondson her legs, has been sentenced. He was found guilty of second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, armed criminal action, and operating a vehicle without a valid license. He’ll serve 18 years and nine months in state prison.
Cheatham County deputies arrested a 19-year-old after he allegedly led law enforcement on a multi-county chase in a stolen truck Sunday night. Dillon Duke crashed and ran from the truck. He was chased down by a deputy in his patrol vehicle, who then collided with Duke. During the chase along State Highway 49 through Robertson and Cheatham County, speeds reached up to 120 mph. The deputy who collided with Duke does not face any disciplinary action, the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Tennessee says Rutherford County is growing nearly two times faster than the state of Tennessee as a whole. According to data from UT Knoxville, Rutherford County is expected to gain more than 30,000 new residents in the next four years and 100,000 more in the next 10 years. Murfreesboro Mayor Shane McFarland said as far as roads and traffic, the majority of the City of Murfreesboro’s main roads are owned by the state. Therefore, he is working with the state to get the roads ready for more cars. McFarland explained that 70% of the money the city is borrowing is specifically for transportation and traffic.
