Twelve-hundred troops from the Tennessee National Guard are in Florida for Hurricane Ian. Governor Bill Lee yesterday said he deployed the troops to the Sunshine State to prepare for response and recovery efforts. Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida yesterday around 3 p.m. and the extent of the damage will become clearer today.
Workers with Middle Tennessee Electric are leaving for South Carolina this morning to assist those affected by Hurricane Ian. The storm made landfall as a category four yesterday afternoon, flooding areas along Florida’s gulf coast before moving inland, expected to reach South Carolina by Friday. MTE line workers will help Palmetto Electric crews repair potential damage to their system, serving around 75-thousand customers.
The Springfield Board of Mayor and Alderman passed a resolution authorizing the acceptance of nearly $2.5 million in American Rescue Plan money to build a new wastewater treatment plant. In addition, the city ratified an emergency $36, 000 purchase for electrical system repairs at the current water treatment plant.
Medical examiners are calling the death of a Clarksville teen a suspected homicide. Officials say 13-year-old Kadaris Maddox died of malnutrition, weighing only 32 pounds at the time of his autopsy. The teen suffered from cerebral palsy and was bound to a wheelchair. His mother, Cheyenne Maddox, has been charged with multiple child neglect and abuse counts related to the conditions in which Kadaris and other children were living.
A Clarksville home is said to be a total loss after a fire Tuesday night. Crews were called to Zachary Drive around 9:00p.m. where they found flames coming from the home and the roof collapsed. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
