A bill that could take power away from business owners and put it in the hands of gun owners is being discussed at the state capitol, SB2180, if passed, would allow people with certain permits to carry guns in businesses that prohibit and restrict them. It will remove offenses of possessing a weapon in a building that prohibits or restricts them — allowing people with an enhanced handgun carry permit to carry inside.
Emotional support animals are now banned from Tennessee restaurants and hotels. On March 15, Gov. Bill Lee signed a bill into law banning emotional support animals from indoor areas of “food service establishments.” Only trained service dogs, police dogs, and fish inside a tank are allowed inside restaurants. Access to service dogs is protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Metro Animal Care and Control rescued dozens of animals from a Hermitage home on Monday night. Spokesman Matthew Peters said 17 dogs and 16 cats were rescued from hoarding at a Port Jamaica Court home. The animals, which are in poor health but alive, were placed under MACC’s care and in need of new homes. Peters said the house would likely be condemned.
Metro Nashville Police have arrested a teenager in the shooting death of a Madison man at a Nashville apartment complex. 18-year-old Marickus Ladd is accused of criminal homicide for the March 8 murder of 20-year-old Gregory T. Manning II. The investigation shows Manning went to the apartment at Ladd’s request. While there, police say an argument ensued, resulting in Manning being shot.
A bill passed out of a House committee Tuesday would make some changes to the types of specialty license plates Tennesseans can purchase for their vehicles. HB1608 adds a new specialty plate designation for certain arts, hobbies, social groups, and more. Among the new ones is the Madison-Goodlettsville Rotary Club’s Promote Peace plate. Funds from the plate sales will promote peace and resolve conflicts, including funding local schools and camps for educational materials related to peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and anti-bullying.
