The private school voucher bill moved forward in the House Government Operations Committee on Monday. The House is attempting to pass its bill that would provide vouchers to 20,000 students who want to attend private schools and benefits that teachers have been requesting for years. The bill now goes to the House Finance Committee next. The Senate also two versions of the bill making their way through committees.
One lawmaker is proposing legislation that would ensure Tennesseans are saving money at the pharmacy when possible. HB2897 would require a pharmacy or other authorized dispensing entities to do everything in their reasonable power to contact and make their customer aware of the lowest available cost of a prescription drug before the sale transaction is complete. The bill was out of the Health Subcommittee last week and is scheduled to be heard by the Health Committee on Wednesday.
Two missing Shelbyville girls believed to be with their non-custodial mother have been found safe. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said 2-year-old Journey Garrett and 9-month-old Daley Garrett were last seen in Shelbyville on Wednesday, March 13. They were believed to be with their non-custodial mother, Casey Campbell, in the area of Powell, Alabama. Campbell was wanted by the Shelbyville Police Department for especially aggravated kidnapping.
A woman and her pet cat were displaced after a condo caught fire Sunday night in Franklin. Firefighters arrived less than four minutes later to find flames and heavy black smoke coming from an open garage door. They knocked down the fire, preventing it from extending into the residence and to the adjoining unit. According to Franklin Fire Investigator Brian Daugherty, the fire started in the attached garage of the home, where an electric range was plugged in
