There were some tense moments in Portland over the weekend after a barricaded suspect reportedly shot at arriving police officers. Police said an armed man was reportedly holding a woman and a 13-year-old boy hostage. Police said an ex-con, now identified as 34-year-old Charles Groves Jr., opened fire through the door. Later, Groves allegedly rushed out the front door and into the graveyard across the street before being apprehended by police officers and Sumner County deputies. Portland Police Chief Jason Williams said nobody was hurt in this dramatic event.
Police in La Vergne are on the lookout for two or three robbery suspects who are possibly armed. The suspects reportedly wear all black clothing and the search stems from an ongoing robbery investigation. An administrative mess continues to brew in Millersville with nearly the entire fire department stepping down following their chief’s termination. On Tuesday Fire Chief Brandon Head was terminated through a letter from the city’s Interim City Manager, Tina Tobin. The letter cited wanting to move the city in a new direction. On Wednesday volunteer firefighters continued to turn in their gear. The 2024 NTT IndyCar Series Race will relocate from downtown Nashville to Nashville Superspeedway. Big Machine Group founder Scott Borchetta says the move was made due to upcoming construction planned in the downtown area. By hosting the season finale, Nashville Superspeedway will be the first oval in a decade to decide an NTT IndyCar Series Championship. In addition to the move, Indy NXT by Firestone — the developmental series for the NTT IndyCar series — will also move its 2024 championship finale to Nashville Superspeedway
