A large explosion has neighbors in Wilson County puzzled. The loud noise shook houses and lit up the sky a bright red late Friday night.  The next nearly everybody in the neighbors said they had also felt the explosion.  The cause of the blast is unknown.  Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, the mayor’s office, county commissioners, and the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency have said nothing about the boom.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a 28-year-old man in Springfield late Tuesday night.  Springfield Police were sent to the area to respond to reports of a crash.  When officers arrived on the scene, the driver — identified as Kevin Chapman — got out of the vehicle with a gun.  During the interaction, Chapman allegedly pointed the gun at officers and fired, which led officers to return fire.  The TBI said the circumstances surrounding the deadly shooting remain under investigation:

A La Vergne police officer has returned to light duty three months after being shot in the line of duty.  Officer Ashley Boleyjack was shot in Oct. when she responded to a call with Officer Greg Kern. The two officers were investigating a stolen car.  The suspect was John Drake Jr., the estranged son of the Metro Nashville Police Department’s (MNPD) chief of police. During an altercation, the officers struggled with Drake Jr. when he pulled out a handgun and fired shots, striking both Boleyjack and Kern.  Officers Boleyjack and Kern were treated and released from the hospital and have since been recovering from their injuries. Officer Boleyjack is the first to return to work.

A man was hit and killed by a WeGo Star train last night in South Nashville. Metro police said the 43-year-old man was throwing rocks while on the tracks and turned his back to the train while it was blowing its horn. The train was unable to stop and hit him.  Investigators believe the train was traveling at around 30 mph when the man was hit.  No other information was released.
