Some lawmakers in Tennessee would like to change the state constitution, and they’ve filed bills to make it happen.  State leaders announced a bipartisan effort on bail reform through the process of a constitutional amendment. Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton as well as state lawmakers and city leaders from the Memphis area are proposing a constitutional amendment to grant judges in Tennessee the ability to deny bail for certain defendants.

Five local high school bass fishing teams came together in the pouring rain Saturday for a community service project.  The teams along with one business worked together to remove 33,322 pounds of trash from the banks of Percy Priest Lake.  Tennessee BASS Nation and Tennessee Conservation organized the trash clean-up “tournament” where students received TN Promise hours for cleaning up the lake.

A Putnam County felon who escaped from the Putnam County Jail on Friday is back in custody.  The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said Jack Janes walked out of jail through a door that was accidentally left unlocked. He was being held on charges of aggravated criminal trespassing, possession of a weapon and more. He is also a registered sex offender.  Sheriff Eddie Farris said Janes now has an additional charge of escape, which could carry an additional 6 years of jail time for the Class E felony based on his criminal history. At least two other people have been charged for helping Janes. The sheriff said more arrests are likely as the investigation continues.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said agents and detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Hillwood Private Cove in Nashville. As a result, nearly 425 pounds of methamphetamine and large amounts of money were seized, and three individuals were also taken into custody.  49-year-old Zachery Manier of Murfreesboro; 48-year-old Danny Ray Hones of Costa Mesa, California; and 40-year-old Reginald Levon Cooper of Nashville are charged with drug trafficking and are in federal custody as the investigation continues.
