Officials with the Robertson County Fair are cancelling chicken exhibitions over an outbreak of avian flu. The state Department of Agriculture reports a flock of poultry in West Tennessee has tested positive for the illness. The virus can kill large numbers of domesticated fowl, but risk of infection in humans is very low. Those who own chickens, ducks, turkeys, and other fowl are asked to contact the Tennessee State Veterinarian’s office if they find a sudden increase in sick or dying birds.

A Clarksville organization is making two local individuals homeowners. Officials with the Going Local Initiative have announced Shalinda Robertson and Evelyn Ramos as the winners in a lottery of newly-built properties, set to be finished next summer. The drawing was an outreach project, using a three-hundred-50-thousand-dollar grant from the city to help provide housing for low to moderate income families. A total of 15 applicants met the criteria to be considered.

Tennessee lawmakers are coming together to remove slavery from the state’s Constitution. The historic document still says slavery can be used as a form of criminal punishment despite the practice’s abolition 157 years ago. Tennessee’s Constitution is notoriously difficult to alter and requires support from the public to make changes. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are working together to pass the amendment and are urging Tennesseans to vote in November to help pass the legislation.

A registered sex offender is in custody after alleged sexual misconduct at a Walmart in Lebanon. Police responded to a report of inappropriate touching on Sunday night at the store on South Cumberland Street. Law enforcement arrested Christopher Marmon after reviewing surveillance footage and potentially identifying four victims of the same crime. At least one of the victims is thought to be a minor.

Metro police officers made quick work of capturing four suspects accused in a carjacking Tuesday afternoon. According to Metro police, a Grub Hub delivery driver was carjacked on Oakwood Avenue Tuesday afternoon. MNPD’s aviation unit alongside officers and violent crime detectives were able to locate and track the stolen Honda Accord.Police said after ditching the car on North 6th Street the suspects attempted to run on foot. But, the four were arrested a short time later. No other details have been released at this time.
