The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) responded to hundreds of incidents Monday, and driving is only expected to get more dangerous as temperatures continue to drop. Officials said of the incidents crews responded to yesterday the majority of them involved more than one vehicle. In Middle Tennessee alone, TDOT said crews relocated 275 vehicles. Drivers are asked to exercise extreme caution while out on the roadways as black ice is expected to be forming in the area.
Several passengers were reportedly stuck on the tarmac for hours at Nashville International Airport yesterday. American Airlines said there were two flights stuck on the tarmac for a time at BNA. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, airplanes are not allowed to sit on the tarmac for more than three hours, unless the pilot says it’s too dangerous or air traffic control tells the pilot it would disrupt airport operations.
A Williamson County child was rushed to the hospital after being injured while sledding. An official with the Williamson County Rescue Squad said the 10-year-old child reportedly hit his head on a culvert while sledding. The child’s current condition is unknown.

While some Tennesseans are stuck at home, their lawmakers will do the same. House Speaker Cameron Sexton and Lt. Randy McNally jointly decided to cancel all floor sessions and committee hearings. Snow has blanketed much of Middle Tennessee. As a result, the Cordell Hull building and the state capitol will be closed. Lawmakers will resume on Jan. 22
