A springfield home is still standing thanks to a passerby after the home ignited early Thursday morning. A faulty AC window unit was the apparent cause of the fire at the home, located on Leota Street near downtown. The Springfield Fire Department says a passerby noticed the fire and quickly dialed 911. Reportedly no one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries occurred.

Teachers in Tennessee are paid only slightly more compared to other industries. In fact Business.org, which ranked Tennessee 39th for the rate of teacher pay. The average salary for Tennessee teachers in the 2020-2021 school year was $52,380. This figure ranked 6.2% higher than the average salary across other industries, which was $49,330.

After three consecutive months of steady, near record low unemployment across the state, Tennessee’s jobless rate inched up slightly in August, according to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the month is 3.4%, up just 0.1 of a percentage point from July’s rate of 3.3%. The all-time low rate in Tennessee is 3.2%. One year ago, Tennessee’s jobless number stood at 4%. The current rate is down 0.6 of a percentage point in a year-to-year comparison. The number of nonfarm jobs in Tennessee increased by 3,100 between July and August. The financial activities sector created the most positions, followed by the manufacturing sector, and then the education and health services sector.
