Score one for artificial intelligence, After a Maury County man’s car rolled into a creek, his iPhone’s “crash notification” software was able to dispatch crews to his exact location. At first, the dispatch audio call sounds like any other. The dispatcher on the line asked for the location of the caller’s emergency. However, instead of someone talking back, it was the person’s cell phone giving the responder information. The phone said, “The owner of this iPhone was in a severe car crash.” Units respond[ed] immediately and locate a car that had flipped and ended up in a creek. The iPhone program works to detect severe car crashes, including front and side impacts, rear-end collisions, and rollovers. The alert comes from both iPhones and Apple watches
A fugitive wanted out of Georgia was arrested in Mt. Juliet Monday night after officers pulled him over for speeding. The 33-year-old was wanted in Fulton County for 28 different crimes related to trafficking heroin and cocaine, tampering with evidence, participating in criminal gang activity, and many other drug-related charges.
An engaged couple living out of motels reportedly spent their days stealing and burglarizing cars. Police in Hendersonville say those days are now over. Investigators say the crime spree began late Thursday, Dec. 28, and into the morning of Friday, Dec. 29. When Halee Persinger and Daniel Haskin, allegedly came to a Hendersonville apartment complex off Main Street, driving a stolen 2018 Jeep taken out of Metro Nashville. Now Both Persinger and Haskins are in the Sumner County Jail and are charged with theft of property, (motor vehicle) over $10,000, and four counts of burglary. Her bond is $50,000 bond, his is $65.000
Lt. Governor Randy McNally (R-Oak Ridge) will miss the opening weeks of the upcoming legislative session as he recovers from ankle surgery. According to a statement from McNally’s office, Speaker Pro Tempore Ferrell Haile as well as Deputy Speakers Dawn White, Shane Reeves, and John Stevens will preside over floor sessions in his absence. The session is set to begin on Jan. 9.
