A Middle Tennessee nursing home is being shut down due to failed health and safety standards.  The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has determined that Viviant Healthcare of Murfreesboro does not meet health and safety participation requirements. Viviant Healthcare of Murfreesboro has filed a WARN notice with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. According to the notice, layoffs will be complete by Jan. 14. The total number of affected workers is 79.

The Tennessee Department of Correction needs more correctional officers. Across the state, they’re looking to hire at least 600 people to fill the positions.  The department is offering incentives, like a $5,000 sign-on bonus.  The starting salary for a correctional officer is $44,500 with an automatic increase to $46,752 upon successful completion of the one-year probationary period. TDOC offers paid holidays, college tuition, health care, 401K, and other benefits.  Apply online at tn.gov.

A man is facing 20 charges after he allegedly rammed a stolen Jeep into an officer’s patrol car, crashed into another car while evading police, and fought with an officer on Christmas Eve.  Police say  29-year-old Terrance Allen Hayes was caught with fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, THC pills, a handgun, digital scales, cash, and multiple empty beer cans. Hayes was observed to be intoxicated as officers took him into custody.

The Nashville Predators’ blood drive with the Red Cross is expanding its efforts.  Now through Friday, there are multiple locations across Middle Tennessee where you can donate. Thursday you can go to the Ford Ice Center in Bellevue.  All blood types are needed, but there is a higher demand for type O negative and type O positive blood. Type O blood bags are used most by hospital ERs to treat trauma patients and during surgeries. We’re a little on edge.  A heavy police presence was reported at Opry Mills Wednesday night after some mallgoers mistook the sound of a fallen chair during a fight as gunfire,  The mall was cneckeded by police, and no evidence of gunfire was found.  Three teens, two 16-year-olds and one 14-year-old, were arrested for disorderly conduct in connection to the incident.
