It’s been a busy week. Hundreds of thousands of passengers passed through BNA the day after Christmas. Among those passengers, a handful faced travel delays, with some wait periods longer than others.  The American Automobile Association (AAA) projects more than 7 million Americans will travel by plane between Christmas and New Year’s Day.  AAA predicts airports will be the busiest they’ve ever been as the holiday season heads to a close.

Some people will want to set off fireworks on New Year’s Eve. The rules on when you can use fireworks vary across Middle Tennessee and they’re mostly focused on the Independence Day holiday. Fireworks are generally allowed in Williamson County and Sumner County, but you cannot shoot them in Franklin or Brentwood.  Davidson County not only can you not set them off in the county, but you also can’t buy them there either.  Anyone planning to put on a show for New Year’s celebrations should check their local ordinances before making plans.

While several laws passed by the Tennessee 113th General Assembly took effect in July, the effective date was extended to Jan. 1, 2024, for others. Those new laws included hundreds of bills, with a number of them related to crime and public safety. Some of the laws that take effect Monday are: Increased penalties for distracted driving, GPS technology being added to car breathalyzers so officials can tell if there’s been any tampering, and The Department of Safety will be able to use the $100 enhanced handgun carry permit application and processing fee to pay reimbursements of up to $30 per person to an approved handgun safety school.

A teenager involved in a crash on Dec. 16 died.  The THP’s preliminary report revealed that 18-year-old Bella Bain was driving along Highway 55 in Coffee County around midnight when she suddenly left the roadway and hit a tree. Bain died as a result of the crash. The THP is investigating exactly what happened.

One person is dead after a crash at mile marker 60 on I-65 near I-840 in Williamson County Tuesday morning.  The crash happened about 8:30.  One lane was reopened for traffic about an hour later.
