City repair crews worked to repair a water main break on Christmas morning after a car reportedly struck a fire hydrant in Springfield. City officials say it’s likely residents in the Timberlake area likely had poor or no water service on Monday morning because of the accident.
Three suspected car thieves are in custody after allegedly breaking into and stealing multiple vehicles on Sunday in Gallatin. The Gallatin Police Department said officers responded to multiple reports of stolen vehicles on Sunday and said Antoine Betts, Kaveon Anderson, and a 15-year-old boy were the prime suspects. All three have allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crimes, which included vandalism due to breaking vehicle windows to gain access. They also reportedly provided key information to detectives that led to the discovery of the stolen vehicles.
Two people were reportedly hospitalized after a fight at a motel in Springfield on Christmas Eve. Police say what began as an altercation between a man and a woman ended with the man getting stabbed in the hand with a knife. He’s at Skyline, she’s at NorthCrest. Their injuries on non-critical and it’s unclear what if any charges will be filed in the case.
Metro police are investigating the death of an 81-year-old man Monday after he accidentally shot himself in the chest while in his apartment handling a firearm. Police say it appears Johnnie Thompson was “demonstrating the use of a Derringer pistol” when he dropped the handgun, which discharged when it hit the floor and struck him in the chest.
On Saturday, The First Lady of the United States Dr. Jill Biden made a stop at Fort Campbell to meet with military families affected by the tornado two weeks ago. Officials say 68 military families with affiliation to the post are still displaced after the storm. Dr. Biden flew in with Santa to talk with those families and to give the children gifts.
