If you’re driving from Robertson County to the Nashville airport for a trip out of town, be careful with your firearms. Nashville International Airport seizes the fourth largest number of weapons in the country. By 2022, 136 firearms have already been seized from passengers at security checkpoints, which can result in arrests and heavy fines. Only at airports in Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston have more weapons been seized this year. Airport officials say Nashville experiences about three times the national average of passengers attempting to carry firearms on planes and say it may be because people are unaware of flight rules and regulations.

Children in Tennessee are now more likely to have mental health problems than in the past. That’s according to the Department of Health and Human Services’ National Survey of Children’s Health, which says Tennessee saw an eight percent increase in children experiencing depression or anxiety between 2016 and 2022. Schools across the state are working to improve mental health services, such as counselors to provide more help to students who are back in the classroom for the new school year. Mental health officials say self-harm and suicidal thoughts among minors have tripled in some areas since 2020 and urge parents and children to reach out if they are concerned about their mental health.

A state veterinarian has issued a statewide emergency response and immediate suspension of poultry shows, displays and sales due to a highly pathogenic strain of avian flu reported in a West Tennessee flock. This announcement comes from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDOA), which reported that a backyard flock in Obion County was experiencing unexpected deaths due to avian influenza (HPAI), commonly known as bird flu. HPAI is known to be fatal to domesticated birds. The affected West Tennessee flock consists of chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, pheasants, and pigeons. On September 13, the herd owner notified the State Veterinary Office after a sudden and unexplained increase in deaths.

Three men were arrested Tuesday night on pending aggravated kidnapping charges. Metropolitan Police say that on Monday, September 5, the victim reported that Ceepon Yasin, 26, Iden Salman, 22, and Reybaz Abdullah, 24, came to her home in Joelton and demanded a loan payment. When the victim told them that he did not have the money, the three men forced him into a vehicle, pistol-whipped him and threatened to kill him before finally letting him out of the car. On Tuesday night, the police found the three men and arrested them.
