As a result of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, an estimated 2,500 more births happened in Tennessee in the first six months of 2023.  Using provisional Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) natality data for the first half of 2023, the IZA Institute of Labor Economics found there was a 2.3% average increase in births in states where abortion was not restricted. In Tennessee, there was a 3.3% increase.

The court of appeals has ruled that the Covenant School parents are allowed to intervene and speak to the court about the release of the shooter’s writings.   The families of members of The Covenant School have been waiting for months for this ruling in the lawsuit over the release of the shooter’s writings. The Tennessee Court of Appeals made the ruling Thursday.  They’re concerned there is information in the writings about the school’s security and possibly some information about students. This ruling also pertains to the school and church being allowed in the case.  The case will now go back to a Nashville judge.

A man is facing felony drug charges after detectives seized more than 100 pounds of marijuana at his Antioch home.   Police said detectives helped the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office conduct a search warrant on a home belonging to John Edward Minter III in Antioch.  Detectives with RCSO observed Minter driving a white 2014 Chevrolet Silverado away from his house; before leaving, he was seen loading boxes of marijuana into the truck, according to the report.  The 119 pounds of pot was packaged in plastic bags inside cardboard boxes. They also seized a supply of Psilocybin mushrooms.
