Authorities in various Middle Tennessee counties say the recent iOS 17 iPhone update includes a new feature called NameDrop.  Officials said the feature allows users to easily share their contact information with another iPhone or Apple Watch by holding the devices a few centimeters apart. According to Apple, after the devices connect, you can choose to share your info and/or receive the other person’s. You can also cancel the transfer by moving the devices away from each other or locking your phone before the process is complete. In addition, the company said NameDrop only works for sending new info, not updating a contact that’s already on your phone.  Authorities shared their concerns about the feature’s impact on iPhone users’ privacy, saying that the iOS17 update turns NameDrop on by default, which could allow scammers to get your information.

Here is news we didn’t need to know:  A recent report ranked the Volunteer State as one of the most vulnerable states for blackouts and electricity shortfalls if extreme cold hit the South this winter.  The reason:  power plants are being shut down before the end of their useful life, and some experts say that’s a mistake;  Others while not advocating getting rid of environmental permitting, are asking for a  reasonable amount of time to decide whether projects can be built or not. Murfreesboro police responded to an assault in the parking lot of Kelton Hardware on Old Fort Parkway just after 5 p.m. Friday. They found a man who had been beaten and had multiple stab wounds.  Police said they would like to talk to three persons of interest in the assault, two men and a woman who ran away from the scene. One male wore all-black clothing, the female wore a white hoodie and black pants, and a second man wore a black sports jacket with white sleeves. If you see the give Crimestoppers a call
