Some Covenant School parents are furious after three pages of the Covenant School mass shooter’s writings were leaked Monday. A Covenant father, Brent Leatherwood, spoke on behalf of Covenant families saying they are convinced a member of the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) released these documents. Leatherwood does not believe it’s a reflection of the department, but he says this one officer is forcing families to re-live this nightmare.
Tennessee State Parks will offer Thanksgiving meals at seven park restaurants. Originally, eight parks were included but Montgomery Bell State Park has already sold out. The seven remaining parks will offer the meals on Thanksgiving Day. The parks participating are David Crockett State Park, Fall Creek Falls State Park, Cumberland Mountain State Park, Henry Horton State Park, Montgomery Bell State Park (Sold out), Natchez Trace State Park, Paris Landing State Park, and Pickwick Landing State Park. It might be tough getting out of town. Beginning Wednesday, Exit 216-A on I-40 East will be closed for a few hours overnight for construction work. Crews will begin widening the ramp to enhance traffic flow. Travelers will need to use Exit 216-B from the downtown area and Murfreesboro Pike as an alternate route. Travelers on I-40 West will use the Donelson Pike exit. The closures will be from midnight to 4 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.
Tennessee could reject nearly $2 billion in federal education funding. A task force with members from both the House and Senate is meeting Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Cordell Hull building to start discussing the possibility. State leaders have said previously they want education funding “without any strings attached.” House Speaker Cameron Sexton said he believes Tennessee would be able to replace the federal funding with state dollars.
