Tennessee is experiencing a blood shortage. Medical facilities nationwide have been short of blood supplies since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and health officials are urging people to donate. Labor Day Weekend only made blood supplies shrink and drives are being held across the state over the next few days for National Blood Donation Week. Health experts say one pint can save up to three lives and more information on where to give blood near you can be found online.
Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti is announcing a settlement in a multi-state lawsuit against e-cigarette manufacturer, Juul. The litigation claims the company targeted underage users in marketing campaigns and by offering flavors that appealed to teens. Juul has agreed to remove marketing materials from social media and a list of other restrictions. The company is paying out more than four-hundred-38-million dollars to Tennessee and 32 other states.
Police in Hendersonville say a 29-year-old man is in custody for allegedly stalking a middle school student. Alejandro Rodriguez Lopez attempted to hand the child a note at a bus stop, with the student reporting the incident to school officials, according to investigators. Detectives discovered Lopez had gone to the bus stop on at least three occasions to try to contact the juvenile. Anyone with additional information on the incident is asked to contact the Hendersonville Police Department.
The Tennessee Department of Health has received a five-million-dollar grant to help prevent deaths among pregnant women. The money will help fund programs statewide dealing with pregnant women and eliminating disparities in maternal health care and education.
