A newly-released poll shows more than half of Tennesseans are opposed to state funding for a new Titans stadium. Released by the Beacon Center, the survey shows 61 percent of respondents indicated they were against state leaders devoting five-hundred-million dollars to the project. Around 69 percent of those participating in the Beacon Center poll live in East Tennessee.
On Thursday, Sumner County commissioners voted to seat Republican Terri Boyt instead of having a runoff after Boyt and Democratic candidate Brenda Dotson tied in August. The all-Republican commission, at first, voted on a motion for a runoff that failed. Commissioner Jeremy Mansfield then moved to elect Boyt, which passed 20 to 1, but Commissioner Benjamin Harris wanted to put this decision on the ballot.
Robertson Countians need to watch out for the flu. Local health experts say the upcoming flu season could be more active than in recent years. Vanderbilt Infectious Disease Professor Doctor William Schaffner says parts of the southern hemisphere have had more cases of flu this year, particularly in children and young adults. The doctor recommends getting the flu vaccine beginning late this month and through October. The annual viruses typically cause a peak of infections in February across the United States.
Clarksville City Council will study COVID-19 hazard pay for former city employees. There’s been debate about how the American Rescue Plan Act funds were allocated. Former employees are wondering about their pay since only employees who worked for the city in March 2022 got checks. Council will reportedly discuss the hazard pay at a meeting on September 25.
Researchers at nursing information and education outlet CEUfast reviewed data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to find the cities with the highest numbers of residents who have been told they have any form of depression. Kingsport is the most depressed city in Tennessee and second in the country with 30.6 % of its residents depressed. Knoxville 3rd in the nation at 30.2% and Chattanooga tied with Duluth, Minnesota at number 9 with 25.8% of residents suffering from depression
