UPS is looking to hire hundreds of seasonal workers in the Nashville area.  The company announced it expects to hire around 675 seasonal employees in the Nashville area ahead of the holiday rush.  Seasonal hourly pay rates range from $21 per hour for package handlers, to $23 per hour for package delivery drivers.    Apply online at jobs-ups.com.

The Columbia man charged with murdering his beauty queen girlfriend following a domestic incident on Sept. 12 made his first court appearance on Wednesday, Sept. 27. James Edward Davidson Jr. appeared before Judge Bobby Sands by video from the Maury County Jail, where he was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault resulting in death.   Davidson was denied bond by Judge Sands.

An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in a misdemeanor guilty plea to a criminal information by the Marshall County Register of Deeds’ spouse, Ritaanne Weaver, who worked as a deputy in the register’s office.  Investigators determined that Weaver received at least $299.05 in improper payroll payments while being absent from work on three occasions. The register knew his wife was not in the office on those dates, but he still approved her false timesheets. Gas prices have once again reversed course across the state and are now moving less expensive. On average, gas prices in Tennessee fell six cents over last week. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $3.37 which is seven cents less expensive than one month ago but 19 cents more than one year ago.  The national average for a gallon of gas hit what may be 2023’s peak price of $3.88 last week, only to slide a few cents in remainder of the week.  Today’s average is $3.84 – four cents less than a week ago.
