Local News

An investigation is underway after two bodies were discovered inside of a vehicle at a Lebanon truck stop.  Officers were responding to the Pilot on Murfreesboro Road just off Interstate 40, to perform a welfare check on two people staying at the Pilot truck stop.  Police say there are there are no signs of foul play or drugs, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Officials in Spring Hill are warning the public about a scammer posing as a member of the Spring Hill Fire Department.  City officials said on Thursday, Aug. 3, the Spring Hill Fire Administration was alerted to a possible phone scam where businesses were being asked to provide financial sponsorships to the Spring Hill Fire Department for “ongoing fire prevention activities.”  Anyone believed to have been scammed by Community Fire Stoppers or Paul Bohlander is encouraged to call their local law enforcement agency and file a police report for fraud and theft.

Probably not the best timing.  Yes, hunting season begins Aug. 25, with the hottest days of the summer predicted. Tennessee’s three-day “velvet deer season” is Friday through Sunday (only with archery equipment, except in Unit CWD where guns and muzzleloaders are allowed and only private lands for antlered deer). Saturday is the standard opening day for squirrel hunters.  With the heat index predicted to exceed 100 degrees, there is a good chance there will be fewer hunters in the woods in the coming days.

TriStar Summit Medical Center said 15% of cases this week are heat-related issues.  Emergency Department Director Doctor Ken Colaric said their heat-related illnesses are currently a little above average due to the heat spike.  Innovation Academy, a Robertson County School, played Franklin Classical High School on Thursday. It’s their first game of the year while excessive heat continues across Middle Tennessee. The game went on as scheduled but practice was cut short on Wednesday.
