With a number of Middle Tennessee districts kicking off the new school year this week, multiple law enforcement agencies have issued reminders about the importance of safe driving as children travel to and from school.  For example, the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is starting the semester with a half-day today.  The Clarksville Police Department issued a statement reminding motorists that it is crucial to be aware of the times and speed limits for school zones — which are marked with flashing lights or traffic signs — due to the number of kids walking to school.

A convicted felon living in Tennessee is facing 76 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.  A federal firearms dealer contacted the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office regarding six guns being stolen from an auction at the end of July. The investigation led to the arrest of 65-year-old Robin Eaker, of Florida, who lives in Humphreys County.  The sheriff’s office said Eaker also had illegally purchased 61 firearms in a single week. He, however, is a convicted felon and prohibited from having guns.

An Army Reservist from Middle Tennessee has been arrested on a $400,000 bond. He’s accused of statutory rape by an authority figure and unlawful solicitation of a minor, age 15.  Metro Police say 39-year-old Kenneth Wasson of Mt. Juliet, is alleged to have met the victim on a dating app in July. She told police his post “made it appear as if he was in the Army, and that she expressed an interest in the military while advising him she was 15.”   Wasson later admitted to having sex with the victim during the investigation. Police say he’s also accused of sending “lewd photos” using the dating app and wrote they “needed to get together again.”

An Adams resident is dead following Saturday’s single-car crash on I-65 South at mile marker 88/0 near Trinity Lane.  Investigators say  Brandon Perry Day, 39, of Adams was driving a GMC Envoy southbound when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed two lanes of travel before leaving the roadway and striking the center concrete median wall in the early afternoon. Day was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he died.
