The Fourth of July marks the historic date in 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress and when our nation declared its independence and was no longer a colony of England. Because of the holiday, federal, state and county offices are closed. Post Offices are closed and there will be no regular mail delivery.
The Fourth of July Tennessee Gas Price average is now $3.07 which is 12 cents less expensive than one month ago and $1.36 less than one year ago. Tennessee gas prices averaged $4.42 per gallon on July 4, 2022 – a record high for the holiday. The national average for a gallon of gas fell four cents since last week to $3.53. That is two cents less than a month ago but $1.28 less than a year ago.
More strong-to-severe thunderstorms will be possible over the next several days in Middle Tennessee. The storms will mostly be fueled by daytime heating, however by Thursday, the storms will be driven by a summertime cold front. The primary weather concerns for the storms will be heavy rain, hail, lightning, and wind. And while tornado risk is very low it is not zero. Most storms are expected to end in time for Tuesday night fireworks.
Your pets don’t love fireworks as much as you do. The American Animal Hospital Association says animal control officials across the country see a 30%-60% increase in lost pets each year between July 4-6. Officials said it’s best to keep your pet indoors and avoid bringing them to large display gatherings. If they’re at home, invest in a thunder shirt if they start to feel anxious or administer veterinarian prescribed anti-anxiety medication.
A California startup announced its prototype flying car has been cleared for takeoff by the Federal Aviation Administration. Alef Aeronautics said its “Model A” is the first flying vehicle that can drive on public roads and park like an average car to receive clearance for flight by the FAA. The company is accepting pre-orders for the Model A, which it expects to officially hit the market in 2025 with a price tag of about $300,000..
