The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office is conducting active shooter training. A three-day exercise is underway at Beech High School in Hendersonville. Lieutenant Eric Craddock says it is important to keep deputies sharp as new tactics for emergencies are developed. Craddock says school safety is important to deputies, as many of them, including him, have children enrolled in the district.
The White House Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its first ever “Thrive Women’s Luncheon” on Aug. 10th. The event is a spin-off of the chamber’s “#NoFilter Girls Summit” is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Donald L. Eden Community Room at the Billy S. Hobbs Community Centerin White House. The luncheon will host 75 guests. Cost is $25 per ticket, which can be purchased online via www.whitehousechamber.org or at the chamber office on Hwy 76. Deadline to purchase is Aug. 5.
Officials with Wilson County Schools are implementing a new policy this fall to crack down on student vaping. Public Information Officer Bart Barker says the effort is centered around education. Students who get caught using vape devices will be required to attend education courses through their third offenses. Those who are found vaping five or more times can face expulsion.
Federal and state officials are set to visit Waverly following a recent flood recovery survey. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell is joining Tennessee EMA Director Patrick Sheehan and Mayor Buddy Frazier for a tour and closed roundtable at 2:30 p.m. The officials will discuss rebuilding efforts including challenges the community has faced. Administrator Criswell is expected to provide a public recovery update prior to the session.
