Portland Fire Department Engineer Jair Hawkins and his new wife, Hailey, were on a honeymoon cruise this past week and was going to a different deck to get some food when Hailey called for him to “get back now!” He found a passenger performing CPR on an unresponsive woman, so the first responder jumped in and used the on-board defibrillator. After that, the ship’s medical staff reportedly arrived to take over the scene. The Portland Fire Department praised Hawkins on their Facebook page.
The city of Clarksville is mourning the loss of Cathi Maynard, who passed away on Friday at the age of 65. Austin Peay State University Athletics announced her death online. Maynard, a philanthropist and NHRA team owner, poured time, money, and resources into APSU and the Clarksville community. In 2022, she and her husband, Joe, donated $15 million to name the Joe and Cathi Maynard Athletics Complex on APSU’s campus. Not only was that the single-largest gift in university history, but it also helped secure APSU Athletics’ move to the ASUN Conference.
A woman was airlifted to Nashville after an overnight shooting in Christian County, Kentucky. Early investigations show that 47-year-old Jeffrey Proffitt and the victim were in an argument when Proffitt got a gun from his vehicle and began waving it around. During the altercation, the gun fired and a bullet struck the victim in the leg. She us still at Vanderbilt in stable condition.
Sumner County Administrator of Elections Lori Atchley has taken an indefinite leave from her position after being charged by Hendersonville police with domestic assault against her husband. Atchley was cooperative with police and was not under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substance at the time of her arrest. The domestic assault charge is Atchley’s second misdemeanor charge since May 15 when she was charged by Hendersonville police for theft under $1,000.
