Farmers and neighbors said they’re coming together to fight against a proposed natural gas plant in Cheatham County and some residents fear it would put thier livelihoods in jeopardy. TVA spokesperson Scott Brooks said they want to build a natural gas plant and battery storage system on some farmland there. He noted they would use gas to create a fire to generate electricity. A TVA spokesperson said they would like the Cheatham plant to be operational by 2028.
Vanderbilt University Medical Center has introduced new physical security measures, including metal detectors. This began in May on VUMC’s 21st Avenue campus, but during the initial period the metal detectors will be moved to other locations on the 21st Avenue campus. The testing period and evaluation looks at all entrances where patients and visitors may access the facilities.
The 35th annual Trash & Treasures yard sale is this weekend. Sponsored by the Cross Plains Heritage Commission, this year’s event, one of the longest running and most anticipated each year is Friday and Saturday, June 23-24. Between 50-75 vendors are expected at the citywide event, with a bulk of them located between Cross Plains City Hall and Wolves’ Den Barbecue. They will be selling everything from antiques, glassware, signs, and handmade items, to clothes, plants, produce, and an assortment of other yard sale items.
Janae Edmondson, the 17-year-old Tennessee volleyball player who lost her legs in a crash downtown, filed a lawsuit against the City of St. Louis. Among the list of defendants is 21-year-old Daniel Riley who police say is responsible for the crash. Authorities said Riley who was out on bond from another case, sped through a yield sign at the intersection and hit another car. The second car crashed into Edmondson, causing both of her legs to be amputated.
Wisconsn’s 9-year-old Emmitt Bailey captivated the nation with his mullet last summer when he became the USA Mullet Championships Kid’s Division Winner and now he’s back to defend his title. He says he does not plan to make any changes as he enters this year’s competition. When asked why he did not want to change it up Mullet Boy said why change it when he won with it last year.
