Today is Memorial Day and because of the holiday, federal, state and county offices are closed. Post Offices are closed and there will be no regular mail delivery. Memorial Day honors these who died in active military services. Traditionally it was observed on May 30 but now officially observed on the last Monday in May.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is reminding people about safety on the water this Memorial Day. The agency wants to encourage Tennessean boaters to be safe on open waters, which may be busy. TWRA says you should take precautions like checking equipment before heading out, as well as telling someone on dry land where you are going and checking the weather forecast.
A Cheatham County woman is missing after going on a trip with her boyfriend. The family of 33-year-old Nikki Alcaraz, also known as Nikki Cunningham, is asking for the public’s help in finding her. They say Nikki recently went on a trip to California’s Orange County with her boyfriend, Tyler Sutton, to visit family. The pair were stopped by law enforcement in New Mexico, where police say they saw Sutton hit her. Nikki’s sister says she last spoke with her around three weeks ago. They set off in a black 2013 Jeep Wrangler with a bumper sticker that reads “Mama Tried.” Nikki’s picture has been posted online and anyone with information should call the police as soon as possible.
A new study by US Sand Diego says binge watching TV shows is actually a lesson in self-control. The study found it’s watching is 3 shows or more episodes and is a planned event. Viewers prefer to binge-watch sequential programming with an overarching narrative not stand alone episodes, and that popcorn is the staple snack for binge watching. The study says if you want people to stop binge watching shows the study says add commercials.
