A 13-year-old is dead after a fatal hit-and-run near Goodlettsville. Police say it happened last Friday night around 10:30 p.m. on Springfield Highway. That’s where two cars collided after investigators say one ran a stop sign, leaving two people with serious injuries. It was yesterday announced that Gabriel Barrera Junior did not survive his injuries. A driver in a 2014 Nissan Murano fled the scene. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

A Hendersonville woman is looking to install a potentially life-saving resource in the city. A GoFundMe campaign is nearing the goal of collecting 23-thousand dollars to cover the cost of a Safe Haven Baby Box. The boxes serve as protected places a mother can leave a newborn without facing prosecution within two weeks of the infant’s birth. The woman behind the effort says city officials are interested in placing the box at Fire Station Number Five because it is directly in front of the hospital.

18-year-old Evelyn Stephan of Greenbrier is the first female Eagle Scout in Robertson County. She’s now trying to start a Girl Scout troop in Greenbrier. If a troop is established, she says it could join with the boys’ troop in helping to generate more interest among girls to become involved in Scouts, while teaching them all of the valuable life skills they provide.

Tennesseans for Student Success has launched the annual Tristar Reads contest that will reward four students with a $1,000 college scholarship. All Tennessee students entering grades K-12 can participate by spending at least 20 minutes each day reading a book. This year’s program will run from May 30 to Aug. 7th. The FBI is searching for a man who robbed a Brentwood bank yesterday afternoon. Investigators say the suspect entered a Pinnacle Bank branch on Franklin Road around 2 p.m. and handed a teller a bag, demanding cash. Officials say he was wearing a blue sweatshirt and a red bicycle helmet and left the property on foot, heading east. Anyone with information related to the robbery is asked to contact the FBI’s Nashville office.
