A Springfield woman managed to escape an overnight fire early last Tuesday morning but lost three of her pets in the process.  By the time members of the Springfield Fire Department arrived at the Spring Circle scene, the multi-level home was already engulfed in flames. Although it took firefighters almost an hour to put the fire out, they managed to prevent it from spreading to the adjacent woods and other nearby homes.

Volunteer State Community College has named Dr. Meredith Young as Center Director for the Springfield Campus.  For the past five years, she has been serving as an Academic Advisor to the Health Sciences programs at Vol State.  Prior to working at Vol State, Young performed student advising and student support-focused roles at Middle Tennessee State University and Belmont University.

Cheatham County 4-H campers will get the chance to hone both their adventure and crime-fighting skills this summer courtesy of the Jumanji-themed summer camp series featuring “Jungle Quest 1,” which will introduce kids in grades 4-8 to the world of crime scene investigations.  “Jungle Quest 1” will be Thursday, June 22 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m, at Cheatham County Central High School. Scratch this off your bucket list: The Nashville Superspeedway is offering drivers a chance to take their own cars on the track as part of an upcoming charity fundraiser.  Individuals can run their vehicle for three paced laps in exchange for a 75-dollar donation.  Those who participate will also be able to download a photo of their car in victory lane.  The offer is part of Track Laps Day, scheduled for May 13th.  Search speedway-charities-dot-org for more information or to register.

For the first time in over four weeks, the state gas price average is trending lower. Gas prices across Tennessee fell seven cents, on average, over last week. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $3.31 which is 17 cents more expensive than one month ago but 54 cents less than one year ago.

Fewer Americans are feeling confident about the economy.  The Conference Board’s Consumer Confidence Index fell nearly three points in April to a nine-month low.  The survey noted worries about jobs and a possible recession following recent bank failures in the U.S.  Consumers also cut back on plans to buy homes, autos and other big ticket items like vacations amid inflation concerns.
