Two of the so-called “Tennessee Three” are being expelled from their House seats. An expulsion vote was held in Nashville yesterday for Representatives Gloria Johnson, Justin Jones and Justin Peason after the trio joined protestors in demanding stricter gun laws. Johnson, who is white, survived the vote but her two Black counterparts did not. She told reporters the reason she survived the vote “might have to do with the color of [their] skin.” Republicans have said the expulsion vote was a result of the three’s behavior during the protests.
The Smyrna teen who lost both her legs in an accident made a surprise appearance during a benefit Wednesday night. Seventeen-year-old Janae Edmondson was met with cheers as she tearfully greeted the crowd. Edmonson was hit by a car while visiting St. Louis and had both legs amputated. She is a volleyball player who received a scholarship from UT Southern. The school says they will honor that scholarship.
A new poll shows Americans are more and more worried about drug use and affordable health care. A Gallup survey shows the number of Americans who worry “a great deal” about drugs is up 8 percentage points since last year, now 46 percent. The number of respondents who said they’re concerned about the affordability and availability of health care is up 5 percentage points to 54 percent. The economy and inflation still sit at the top of Americans’ biggest concerns.
