Robertson County parents are being given advice on how to talk to their kids about school shootings. Governor Bill Lee believes the school shooting in Nashville is the result of “evil.” The governor released a five-minute pre-recorded message yesterday to talk about The Covenant School shooting. Lee said “the battle is not against flesh and blood… the struggle is against evil itself.” He said “we will act to prevent this from happening again.”
Proceeds from an upcoming fundraiser are being redirected to care for survivors of the Covenant School shooting. Officials with the Fund Recovery organization say money raised at an April fourth event will go toward mental health care services. NFL athletes Eric Decker and Delanie Walker are among those supporting the effort. Country artist JT Hodges is on a list of musicians also set to appear. Fund Recovery typically supports individuals struggling with addiction or other mental health concerns.
Loved ones are remembering the longtime Covenant School custodian who was gunned down earlier this week. Family members say 61-year-old Michael Hill was beloved by the faculty and students at the Green Hills school where he worked for 14 years. Hill was a father to seven children and grandfather to 14 grandkids. His family says he liked to spend his free time cooking and being with those he loved.
A former student of Doctor Katherine Koonce is sharing details of the positive impact she made in his life. Doctor Koonce was the headmaster at the Covenant School and was one of three staff members gunned down on Monday morning. Barrett Severance says she was a champion for her students and never quit fighting for their success, even if they had stopped fighting for themselves.
