Police have ID’d the three kids and three adults killed by a shooter at a private Christian elementary school in Nashville on Monday. The kids killed at The Covenant Presbyterian School were all under the age of ten. One of the adults is the academy’s headmistress. The shooter, a transgender Nashville woman armed with two assault-style weapons, was shot and killed by police inside the school. The team of police that entered the school are getting praise from the President for their quick response.

Tennessee’s lawmakers are responding to yesterday’s school shooting in Nashville.  Both Governor Bill Lee and Senator Marsha Blackburn took to Twitter to ask people to join them in prayer.  State Senator Heidi Campbell represents the  area where the shooting took place at The Covenant Presbyterian School.  She said “we don’t need thoughts and prayers” and instead called for “common sense gun reform.”  Campbell also said she will never forget the screams of one of the parents whose child was killed.

President Biden has ordered U.S. flags at the White House and all other federal buildings to be flown at half-staff to honor the victims of Monday’s school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee.  It’s in effect through Friday at sunset.  Also on Monday, Biden once again called on Congress to ban assault weapons.

A number of organizations are available to help children and families who are dealing with the impact of yesterday’s tragic mass shooting.  The National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement has tips on for parents on discussing violence and disasters, along with other resources, on their website at school-crisis-center-dot-org.  The National Alliance for Grieving Children offers support tool kits and counseling directories through their web page.  Local organizations are also preparing responses for those in need of support.

A Wall Street Journal poll showed that under 40-percent of Americans said patriotism is very important to them, compared to 70-percent who said it was in 1998.  The amount of people who said the same about hard work and community involvement have also fallen.  Money is the only thing that actually grew in importance, according to the poll.
