Administrators with Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools are hoping to fill open teaching positions with an event next week. A job fair is planned for next Thursday, March 30th, at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center in Clarksville. Individuals who are licensed to teach in Tennessee are invited to attend, as are those who are actively pursuing a license. District officials say they have around one-hundred open teaching positions across 40 schools.
The Tennessee House has passed a bill that would criminalize key fob simulation. The legislation is aimed at reducing car thefts and would make it a misdemeanor to possess any sort of device or tool capability of programming a smart key or key fob to commit theft. If it becomes law, it would take effect July 1.
The Senate Judicial Committee passed a bill to expand gun access in Tennessee in a 7-2 vote. The move comes after a gun rights group pressed a lawsuit against Tennessee to allow 18-year-olds to carry firearms. Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti struck a deal to allow that. Now, the legislature is considering making it law. There is still a lot of opposition to the legislation. Sen. London Lamar said he didn’t think any high schooler was responsible to have a deadly weapon.
Robertson Countians at work on their taxes should be aware of big changes for the child tax credit and the dependent care credit. The pandemic era more generous benefit to the child tax credit has expired for tax year 2022. IRS Spokesperson Eric Smith says this year the limit is back to what it was in the past which varies depending on the age of the children and income. Meanwhile, the dependent care credit has returned to pre-pandemic rules as well. Daycare, nannies and summer day camp count toward the dependent care credit.
