A bill that would slightly scale back Tennessee’s abortion ban is making its way through the legislature in Nashville. The bill was yesterday approved by the House. It would change Tennessee’s abortion law to allow doctors to perform abortions if their “reasonable medical judgement” deems the mother’s life to be in danger. Democrats tried to scale the ban back further, proposing adding exceptions for minors who get pregnant from rape or incest. The Republican majority rejected the idea. The bill will now move on to the Senate.
Tennessee Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally still has the support of his peers. McNally yesterday survived a “no confidence” vote from his Republican colleagues.
