Tennessee Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally says he is taking a pause from social media. It comes the week after 79-year-old McNally was found commenting repeatedly on the suggestive Instagram posts of a 20-year-old gay man. The Republican came under fire after the discovery as he has recently served as speaker of the State Senate to oversee a chamber that has passed bills some believe are anti-LGBTQ. Tennessee has recently banned gender-affirming care for transgender youth and placed restrictions on drag show performances.
The City of Mount Juliet is now operating their own EMS service. Interim Fire Chief Joey Edwards says putting the ambulance crews on the road was a necessity to keep up with demand in the growing community. The municipality relied on Wilson County Emergency Management up until yesterday. City leaders invested one-point-eight-million dollars to place medical responders at each of their fire houses.
If you’re looking for a Spring Break, you aren’t the only one. Triple A reports that nearly one-third of Tennesseans are planning a trip between now and early April. The most popular destinations are ones a bit warmer, like Florida or a cruise. It says even though costs are up, more families have a trip planned, either flying or driving, than they did this time last year.
Winters in the U.S. appear to be getting warmer. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports the average temperature for the U.S. this Winter was 34-point-nine degrees Fahrenheit. That’s about two-point-seven degrees above average. Meanwhile, this Winter saw zero-point-nine inches of rain above average, making it the third wettest Winter on record.
Today is Pi day, as in the annual celebration of the mathematical constant Pi. Pi is commonly rounded to three-point-one-four, but experts say the most accurate value for Pi is actually more than 62-trillion digits.
