Police in Clarksville are looking for the suspect who shot a 13-year-old boy dead last Friday night. Parrese Johnson, the mother of victim Paul Miller, says she received a phone call as her family was leaving to get ice cream. Miller was found on Oakmont Drive, where he had been shot in the chest. He later died at the hospital. Video surveillance showed a dark-colored SUV at the scene. Detectives do not believe this was a random shooting.
Robertson County motorcyclists will still have to wear a helmet. A bill that would have let bikers to ride without one has failed. The legislation would have created a four-year pilot program to make helmet-wearing voluntary from September through May for those over 21 years old. Representative Jay Reedy said his bill was about giving people the freedom to choose whether to wear a helmet. He pointed out that helmets are optional for adult riders in many other states.
Construction companies in Robertson County are warning residents of potential scammers that may move into the area to capitalize on the recent severe weather. They say homeowners should be suspicious of individuals who solicit door-to-door or ask for payment up front. Repair firms are getting a high number of calls for estimates and have no need to approach customers at home or use pushy sales tactics. The Better Business Bureau adds that it is best hire a company that has a local office and a favorable rating on their website.
Lawmakers are introducing a measure that would allow the state legislature to nullify any federal action it considers unconstitutional. Dubbed the “Restoring State Sovereignty Through Nullification Act,” the bill would establish processes that would allow the general assembly to nullify a federal statute, regulation, agency order, or executive order. The bill would take effect immediately, if passed.
And a social media alert: Instagram is back up and running after being down for a while last night. The photo-sharing platform said a technical issue took down the site for a few hours. More than 53-thousand were unable to access Instagram at the peak of the outage.
