Planners are announcing the dates of this summer’s Wilson County-Tennessee State Fair.  The event returns to the fairgrounds in Lebanon August 17th through 26th.  As always, the event will include livestock shows, carnival rides, live entertainment, and a variety of eats and treats.  The theme for this year’s fair is “95 Reasons to Celebrate Tennessee”, highlighting each of the Volunteer State’s counties.

Juneteenth is one step closer to becoming a legal holiday in Tennessee.  The bill to officially make June 19th a holiday in the state has been approved by a Senate committee.  Despite being declared a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteeth is currently recognized as a special observance in Tennessee, meaning state employees still have to go to work.  Governor Bill Lee is in favor of the move, with his office stating that it would recognize an important day for freedom in America and stay consistent with the federal calendar.

YouMail’s Robocall Index says the number of robocalls jumped nearly six percent in January over the previous month.  Big cities tend to have the highest volume of calls, but when it comes to per capita numbers, southern cities seem to have the highest volume.  One theory on why the South sees so many robocalls is that people there tend to answer their phones more, leading to even more robocalls.

There are some proposed bills moving through the Tennessee legislature that could help you save money on groceries.  Among the proposals are a series of sales tax holidays.  One being from August 1st to September 30th, eliminating sales tax on food.  Another would get rid of sales tax from July 1st through June 30th, 2024 on baby diapers, wipes and formula.  A third bill would permanently eliminate taxes on fruit and vegetables.
