A study shows that nearly a third of Tennessee schools don’t have an armed security guard on campus. Professional Educators of Tennessee said there are more than 480 schools across that state that have no school resources officers. Even more have no armed officers or deputies on campus. It comes as the study shows there were more than two-thousand violent crimes reported on campuses last year.
Transgender children in Tennessee could soon lose their access to gender-affirming care. That’s after the state Senate yesterday passed a ban which looks to ban the care by 26 votes to six. It would stop medical professionals from giving transgender minors treatments which have the purpose of enabling them to live with an identity inconsistent with their sex. It now moves on to the House where it is scheduled to come up tomorrow.
Tennessee Senator Jon Lundberg has proposed a bill that would create a new statewide alert when a domestic abuse victim is reported missing. Known as the Gabby Act, it would issue a Purple Alert from the TBI if someone is missing and is known to be the victim of domestic abuse. It would utilize the same system as an AMBER Alert.
Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti has joined 21 other state AGs in trying to stop the legalization of sending abortion-inducing drugs through the mail. In a recent filing, the AGs say that recent action by the Biden Administration and the FDA are an effort to evade state laws. There has been a push to try and make the drugs more available, including by mail. Those against it say that violates both state and federal laws.
Giving your Valentine one of those metallic balloons may not be a good idea. If you accidentally, or purposely, set a balloon free they can drift into power lines and cause widespread outages. Last year, drifting metallic balloons caused 414 outages in California.
