Wednesday began with another Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Middle Tennessee. Freezing rain is forecast as well as ice accumulation which could make driving dangerous in the region. Drivers should take extra care on the roads and take precautions like leaving big gaps between vehicles and braking gently.
A Mount Juliet man is pleading guilty to a list of federal charges connected to the sexual exploitation of children. U.S. prosecutors say 22 year-old Caleb Jordan is admitting to threatening hundreds of minors in order to coerce them into sending him inappropriate videos of themselves. Jordan was initially arrested more than two years ago as part of a Department of Justice initiative to crack down on internet crimes against children. He faces a maximum of 30 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for June 12th.
A bill that would ban gender-affirming care for anyone 18 and younger in Tennessee will be discussed in subcommittees this week. The proposed legislation will go before the House Health Subcommittee and the Senate Health and Welfare Subcommittee. The bill, filed by Republican Senator Jack Johnson, would ban all gender-affirming care including surgeries, medication and hormone treatment for those under the age of 18.
A proposed bill would help provide support for Tennessee firefighters dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. State Senator Paul Bailey and State Representative Johnny Garrett filed the “James ‘Dustin’ Samples Act” which would classify PTSD as an injury that would require treatment. There would also be aspects of prevention in place. The proposed legislation is named after Cleveland Fire Department Captain James ‘Dustin’ Samples who died by suicide in 2020 after dealing with PTSD.
A recent report shows 64-percent of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. That’s up from 61-percent a year earlier. It also revealed over half of those who make six-figures also said their finances are stretched thin. LendingClub’s financial health officer says the record numbers for paycheck-to-paycheck living are due to the effects of inflation.
