Tennessee is apparently in the bottom half of states to retire in.  That’s according to Wallet-Hub’s list of the “2023 Best States to Retire” which has the Volunteer State ranked in 33rd place.  The findings were based on factors like healthcare, affordability, and overall quality of life.  Virginia was ranked in first place and Kentucky was ranked last.

Winter weather and icy conditions slapping air travelers again this morning.  FlightAware listings show 87 flights in and out of Nashville International are cancelled so far.  More than nine-hundred U.S. flights are grounded as a weather system bringing freezing rain and ice continues to move across the region.  Many Middle Tennessee districts either delayed or closed.

Hundreds of teaching jobs are still unfilled in Middle Tennessee after the halfway mark of the school year.  More than three-hundred job openings across MNPS and districts in Williamson, Wilson, Maury, Robertson, Rutherford, and Montgomery counties are open.  A Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools spokesperson says more than half of the open positions there are for special education roles.  Officials say the additional certifications needed to qualify for those positions are contributing to a nationwide educator shortage.

Police in Clarksville say two men are in custody in connection with a deadly Saturday morning shooting.  Officers responded to a Dodge’s gas station on Fort Campbell Boulevard just before 5:00 a.m., finding 29-year-old Jarlen Corbin with a gunshot wound to the chest.  He was taken to Tennova Healthcare where he died a short time later.  Investigators say suspects Maleike Hamlin and Otis Barnes also suffered gunshot wounds but are now in custody after being released from Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Today is National Hot Chocolate Day.  January 31st has long been dedicated to one of America’s favorite cold weather beverages.  It dates back to 500 BC when the Ancient Mayans drank chocolate made from crushed cocoa seeds mixed in water and chili peppers.  Hot chocolate can be enjoyed in a variety of combinations, topped with whipped cream or marshmallows.
