Madison Freeman, a 2021 graduate of White House High School, was named to the Dean’s List for the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences at George Washington University in Washington, DC. The honor was awarded for the fall 2022 semester and is given to students who meet a 3.75 GPA, full time academic schedule and attendance requirements for the university. Freeman is a junior, with a double major in political science and criminal justice and plans to study criminal or constitutional law in grad school.
A GoFundMe account set up for Tyre Nichols’ memorial fund is surpassing one-point-one million dollars. With more than 29-thousand donors, the account was created just days ago by Nichols’ mother. Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man, was fatally beaten by five police officers in Memphis, Tennessee earlier this month. The officers, who are also Black, were later fired and charged in connection with his death. Video of the beating was released late last week. Nichols is set to be laid to rest on Wednesday.
The biggest concern for parents is their kids’ mental health. That’s according to a new study from the Pew Research Center, which tallied more than 37-hundred U.S. parents last year. Forty-percent of respondents said they are extremely or very worried that their kids will struggle with anxiety or depression. Thirty-five-percent felt the same about their kids being bullied. Concerns over drugs or alcohol and getting shot were further down the list at less than 25-percent.
