Tennessee is not doing enough to stop tobacco use. That’s according to a recent report by the American Lung Association which gave the Volunteer State an “F” grade in four out of its five categories. Those categories are Tobacco Prevention, Tobacco Taxes, Access to Cessation Services and Flavored Tobacco Products. Tennessee got a “C” grade in the other category of Smoke-Free Air. Officials say the state does not use enough funding to stop tobacco use which could go toward things like campaigns which target young people.
The charity arm of Gibson guitars is launching an effort to reduce overdose deaths. Gibson Gives is announcing their TEMPO program, providing opioid emergency response kits to more than 70 live music venues in Nashville. The kits each contain two doses of Naloxone and a screen in the case plays a short video on administering the nasal spray. Locations on Lower Broadway and in Printer’s Alley are receiving the kits, along with other legacy venues.
Tennessee is among the many states across the country that are rooting for the Bengals to make it to the Super Bowl. Twitter fan support hashtag data shows that people in 23 states want Cincinnati to advance to this year’s NFL final. The AFC is seeing the most support nationwide, with another 19 states pulling for Kansas City. Only six states are rooting for Philadelphia, and two for San Francisco.
Seafood company Chicken of the Sea will give someone a million dollars if they submit video evidence and set up an interview with a mermaid. The contest’s very specific rules point out that aquatic animals such as manatees, dolphins and sharks are not mermaids. The rules also specify that any other mythical oceanic, lake, river and/or water dwelling creatures like sirens or blue men are not eligible as well. Contestants have until the end of next month to submit their entries.
