East Cheatham Elementary School is closed today over concerns of a possible natural gas leak. District officials alerted the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department to a smell of gas at the property yesterday. Afterschool activities at ECES are cancelled through this weekend. Daycare is moved to Ashland City Elementary STEM Academy today.
The state has called its final witness in the Clarksville trial of William Roger Campbell for the double murder of his elderly parents, William ”Bill” Campbell and Ina Campbell. Final witnesses testified to Campbell selling the family’s grandfather clock for $5,000 the month after his parents died. Also, testimony showed he was set to inherit his parents’ estate, worth more than $180,000 total. Court will resume Monday with closing arguments.
Crews responded to the scene of a crash involving multiple vehicles on Tiny Town Road, between Pembroke Road and Outlaw Field Road in Clarksville yesterday. One driver had to be extricated from their vehicle and was hospitalized with serious injuries. The roadway was closed for hours as authorities worked to clear the scene, but it has since reopened.
There will be a Special Called Meeting of the Cedar Hill City Commission to Discuss and Possibly Take action on hiring a City Manager and to decide on their monthly salary. The meeting will is tonight at the Club House by City Hall on S. Main Street, in Cedar Hill.
The Tennessee General Assembly is considering a bill sponsored by Rep. Michael Hale that would enact a sales tax holiday on food and food ingredients for seniors over 70. If passed, the tax-free event would last three months from July 1 to Sept. 30. Tennessee is one of 13 states with a tax on groceries.
