A Sumner County teacher’s aide is facing statutory rape charges after an alleged sexual relationship with a student.  Authorities say 42-year-old Shaundra Cartwright was taken into custody yesterday following a lengthy investigation.  The Millersville Police Department began looking into Cartwright in June after a family member reported a possible inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old boy.  Investigators say she has had contact with the teen several times over the last two years.

School employees across the state are learning how to spot signs of human trafficking.  An expansion to Tennessee law makes training more in-depth for teachers, and now requires support staff to attend.  Nonprofit, Operation Rose, is leading the 45-minute workshops in the Nashville area.  Attendees learn signs of fear or physical abuse, among other factors, could mean a student is being victimized.  Law enforcement officers also inform school staff of mobile apps and other methods predators could be using to contact young people.

A Clarksville woman is now indicted in the death of her 13-year-old son.  Cheyenne Maddox was taken into custody yesterday on aggravated child abuse and other charges.  Officers responded to her residence on July sixth when Kadaris Maddox, who suffered from cerebral palsy, was found dead.  She had previously been charged on five counts of child abuse in relation to other children in her home.

The American Association of State Troopers is once again hosting their Best-Looking Cruiser Calendar Contest. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is joining the majority of state police and patrol agencies across the country in participating.  Voters can choose their favorite police vehicle, with the top 13 finishers featured in next year’s calendar.  Voting runs through August 25th at state-troopers-dot-org.
